CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

Building our communities: community outreach

In each of our locations around the globe, Rockwell Collins is embedded in the community. Our employees work, play and build their lives there, and we strive to promote healthy, safe and vibrant communities through corporate activities, educational outreach and partnerships with local governments, industry and community groups.

Green Communities program

We believe grassroots environmental initiatives are one avenue to improve the communities in which we operate. Our Green Communities program helps fund environmental projects coordinated by nonprofit organizations and public entities in partnership with Rockwell Collins employees and retirees. Projects must result in tangible improvement in the environmental condition of the community and have sustainable benefits. Examples include conservation of natural resources and raw materials, improvement of impacts on environmental media (air, water and land) and restoration or development of ecological habitat. The program strengthens our community relationships and helps foster the diverse environmental interests of our employees.

In 2016, we awarded 50 Green Communities grants totaling nearly $90,000 for projects across the United States and in the United Kingdom and France.

Community agency support

For many years, our company has incorporated reduction, reuse and recycling techniques for many materials as a way to lessen our impact on the environment and avoid excessive landfilling waste. Key to the success of these programs in many locations is the relationship between community rehabilitation centers and our facilities. Clean sorting tasks provide multiple job training opportunities for agency clients while allowing Rockwell Collins to reuse various component packaging. Some facilities ship materials off-site for segregation while others host workers on-site for material collection prior to off-site sorting and other tasks.

The following facilities and rehabilitation service providers support our waste reduction programs:

Coralville, Iowa Goodwill Industries of the Heartland
