Leveraging technology and capabilities across our business is made possible through a level of integration that is inherent in our structure. A shared service model for common functions, such as Human Resources, Engineering and Finance, as well as common tools and systems across our businesses, allows us to shift resources to appropriate opportunities and leverage our investment dollars.
Integration allows us to take technologies developed for one area of our business and apply them to other opportunities. For example, technologies originally developed for the business aircraft segment were shared with our government business as solutions for the KC-135 and other fixed and rotary wing applications.
The flexibility to share resources and technologies is especially valuable during turbulent economic times, enabling Rockwell Collins to shift people and resources to areas that are profitable. For example, we have been able to move engineers from the commercial side of our business to work on military projects in our government business.
