Training

SECTION 7: COMSEC

Provides required background information and training to COMSEC personnel to fulfill Link 16 crypto requirements. Students will gain an understanding of how crypto variables are stored in the Link 16 terminal, become familiar with the operation of crypto fill devices, learn procedures to manage crypto variables, and learn to transfer crypto variables from fill device to terminal.

7.1 Link 16 COMSEC - DTD

Concentrates on the operational theory and security requirements associated with the loading of Link 16 related cryptographic materials. Students are introduced to Link 16 terminal crypto storage locations, crypto variable requirements, and crypto fill device procedures (currently the CYZ – 10 Data Transfer Device with CT3 software).
Prerequisite: 6.1 course

7.2 Link 16 COMSEC - DMD

Covers management of Link 16 related cryptographic databases. Students are introduced to the Data Management Device – a personal computer (PC) loaded with crypto management software. Students then use the DMD to maintain current crypto profiles and streamline daily crypto fill procedures.
Prerequisite: 7.1 course
